A Word About Evaluation

Components

bulletPreceptor evaluation of student performance
bullet50% of final grade
bulletConsideration of preceptor's grading patterns and history are taken into account by the course faculty
bulletSOAP notes
bullet15% of final grade
bulletTwo notes required on two separate problems
bulletEvaluation
bulletDoes the student follow the SOAP format?
bulletDoes the student correctly organize the data?
bulletIs the data in the note sufficient to address the chief complaint?
bulletIs there extraneous material?
bulletAre pertinent negatives adequately documented?
bulletIs the assessment consistent with the subjective and objective data?
bulletStudent notes should include a discussion of the decision making process
bulletPlan should be consistent with assessment.
bulletInclude patient education and follow up
bulletInclude any medications with dosage
bulletInclude plans for further evaluation if indicated
bulletExplain and include any observations about data that might not have been obtained during the encounter but that the student, in retrospect, would consider important.
bulletIt would be wise to be prospective and get the information at the time of the encounter.
bulletSelect a patient that you feel you did your best job on.
